Steve Saunders: Bunker Tip
Steve Saunders is the Head Pro at the beautiful Temecula Creek Golf Club in Temecula, CA. He gives Alissa Kacar a lesson on one of the hardest shots in golf – the 30-50 yard bunker shot… and he’ll suprise you with what club he picks! Over the years, Steve has been in competitive golf enjoying his time on the Web.com Tour. After graduating from the University of New Mexico (and earning All-America honors) he moved to the great state of California where we is now the Head Pro at Temecula Creek Golf Club.
Bunker Shot Technique
Steve Saunders suggests using a nine iron instead of a sand wedge for the long bunker shot. He explains that the club should be held in an open position and the golfer should aim slightly left of the hole, about five feet away. He also suggests that the golfer should put more weight on the front foot and aim about one golf ball behind the sand.
