Playa Del Carmen, Mexico – Although rare, once again it was an unscheduled Monday finish on the PGA Tour at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba (Sanderson Farms last week was also a Monday finish because of inclement weather), 27 players resumed final round play at 7:55 a.m. Just 3 minutes later play was halted again because of heavy rain . . . but resumed about 8:15 a.m.

At the start of Monday, Graeme McDowell and Russell Knox were tied at 19 under par thru thirteen and twelve holes respectively. Jason Bohn was two shots back at 17 under par. McDowell shot a final round 5 under par 66. Knox, last weeks winner in Shanghai at the HSBC Champions also shot 66. Jason Bohn shot 68 to complete the three way tie at the end of regulation at -18. On the first hole of the playoff (the 18th), the 36 year old Northern Irishman hit perhaps the best 5 iron of his career, the ball settling within three feet of the cup. Knox missed the green, and Bohn who had 18 feet for birdie, missed the putt. G-Mac rolled in the birdie to win his third career PGA Tour title and prove to himself that all of the hard work after a disappointing year had paid off. “You go through a year like this, and you think, ‘Am I finished? Am I not good enough?’ You ask yourself the questions.” He continued, “It’s the game of golf, and it’s very difficult. I’ve been dreaming of this day and I said that I was going to appreciate it when it came. So I’m going to appreciate this one, because this one has been a grind.”

With the win, McDowell gains entry into many events that he may not have exemptions into – such as: the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, Masters, Players Championship, Memorial, Quicken Loans National, and PGA Championship.
