The Birth of Putting World
Putting World was born out of the passion and expertise of PJ, a golf professional with over 30 years of experience in teaching golf and competing in putting championships. PJ’s vision was to create a venue dedicated solely to putting, where players could showcase their skills and compete against the best putters in the world. The idea came to him when he saw an Office Max closing in North Scottdale and thought it would be the perfect location for an indoor 18-hole putting course. PJ’s overall objective was to turn putting into a recognized sport, separate from traditional golf.
Creating a Competitive Putting Environment
When PJ first conceptualized the World Putting Tour, he didn’t even consider mini golf. His focus was on creating a competitive environment for serious putters. The goal was to have Putting World locations in major metropolitan cities with a golf-centric atmosphere. The competition piece is what sets them apart and attracts top-notch players.
Every month, Putting World hosts a $30,000 purse tournament, with a guaranteed $100,000 purse on March 16 and 17, 2024. The aim is to grow and become the biggest sport in the world. PJ draws inspiration from other competitive sports like pickleball and envisions a similar level of excitement and skill in competitive putting.
The Quality of Players
Putting World attracts a diverse range of players, both on and off the golf course. While some players may have higher handicaps, they possess exceptional putting skills. The level of talent and dedication among the players is truly remarkable. One of the standout players at Putting World is Kevin Lucas, a former corn fairy player and the first winner of the tournament. Another notable player is Casey Barter, a business owner who is currently tied for the lead.
