Kip gave us a tour of the facility, which includes two hitting bays and a TaylorMade fitting center. He then shared his teaching philosophy, which is based on observing the great players and finding out what they all have in common.
Kip believes that the golf swing is like a house: you have to start with the foundation (grip, stance, and posture), then build the walls (backswing), and finally add the roof (sequencing and emotion). He also believes that the golf swing should be a swing, not a manipulation or direction of the club.
Finally, Kip gave us a lesson on how to get more power in our swings. He had us swing a heavy device to get a sense of the sequence and motion, and then had us swing a nine iron to get a feel for the same motion. He showed us how to swing with more freedom and trust the swing, and how to create speed past the ball.
Kip’s teaching philosophy and lesson were invaluable, and we are grateful for the time he spent with us. We look forward to continuing to work on our golf swings and improving our game.
